Introducing Kelsey Shelton, Your Holiday Finalist

Meet our finalist of the day! Read on to learn a bit about her and her entry.

If you like what you see, comment right here--everybody likes props on their hard work!
And check back weekdays through October 3 to meet the rest of the finalists.

Tell us one of your best (or most entertaining) holiday memories.
One of my favorite things when I was little was driving around after Christmas Eve service to look at the Christmas lights with my family. There was always a hushed, magical feeling in the air, but also a sense of joy and contentment.

I got in the holiday mood for this contest by . . .
Daydreaming of powder snow piling into deep drifts and of decorating the Christmas tree.

Why is your card the perfect choice for anyone sending holiday cards this season?
The card is simple and won't detract from any photo a buyer would choose to put beside it. In addition, the card helps to communicate the mission of and to support RED.

Tell us (and the world) a little bit about yourself.
I currently lead a very busy life as a design student, but I love what I do and wouldn't have it any other way. I've always been into art. When I was a kid, my mom got into rubber stamping and card making, and I started too. Since then, I have never given a birthday card that wasn't handmade.

CONGRATS....GREAT CARD AND VERY WHIMSICAL!!

As a general ?, I am just curious if the finalists have already been notified...therefore can ease some of my excitement for the results to see if I made it. It seems to get more info on the finalist, this would have to be done. It's my first entry to one of the contests. Thanks

This is really odd. The whole reason I didn't do a Christmas tree with brackets around the star was because looking over the "RED" site and in viewing previous Hallmark Cards, I saw this idea had already been done. Did anyone else see the same thing when they researched before entering?

In anycase, it is a pretty card. Congrats to Kelsey, and to all the finalists and alternates!

Your card made me smile in the morning Kelsey.

So what if there are some similarities with this card and another card that has been done in the past. The judges obviously have their reasons for selecting this card (it’s beautiful by the way), so why don’t you give her the credit that’s due to her for wonderful work. “In any case, it’s a pretty card”…. I can just taste the disdain from this comment. Congrats to the finalists that are selected- you deserve it!!!!

"...be kind, one to another" everyone. This is a very exciting time for some. Let's not ruin it for them and cause any ill will that will mar the moment. This should be a memorable time in their lives.

It is a Terrific card, and one which I will probably buy. Congrats to Kelsey and anyone else whose card was deemed worthy enough to become a Finalist!

I didn't write my comment to be mean. The judging criteria had said it was looking for ideas that strictly were "your own". Having seen this idea before, I found it was already done, and therefore the reason I didn't go the same route. That is why I find it odd it was not only chosen, but done at all. Other than that, it is very pretty, and I do congratulate the winner.

so Are the finalists already selected?

Out of all of the designs presented through 9/12/08, this card reads "winner." It shows the Christmas spirit in a modern way, and unites the theme with the light - that the RED Campaign brings - at the top of the tree. What a strong piece of design work! And a great representation of the Christmas spirit combined with Bono's vision. :) :) :)
